QUEENSBORO CORRECTIONAL FACILITY CHILLER REPLACEMENT PROJECT – LONG ISLAND CITY, NY

For this project, the replacement of the existing chiller at the Queensboro correctional facility included the removal and disposal of the existing chiller, cooling tower, chiller pumps and associated piping. The new air-cooled chiller required that new dunnage be constructed outside of the boiler room. The Chiller was mounted on elevated dunnage structure. Pipe runs supplying the facility from the chiller needed to be run through the wall of the boiler room.

JOADEM Corporation contracted by NYPA provided special inspection and materials testing services for the construction of the dunnage. Inspection services were provided during the pile installation and pile reinforcement. JOADEM also provided special inspections for the excavation and backfill as required for the completion of the foundation work. JOADEM provided special inspectors that inspected the entire erection process of the steel dunnage structure and installation of the access platform, guardrail, and stairs.
