MTA CAPITAL CONSTRUCTION HAROLD TRACKWORK PART 3

JOADEM Corporation has been contracted by Railroad Construction Company (RCC) to provide Quality Control (QC) Special Inspections and Materials Testing services for the infrastructure improvement project at the Harold Interlocking in Long Island City, NY. The Harold Interlocking is recognized as the busiest rail junction in the nation, serving both Amtrak and LIRR trains.

The primary objective of the project is to alleviate congestion and enhance safety at the Harold Interlocking. This involves extensive track modifications and improvements. As part of the project, over 4,000 feet of existing track was removed, and the site underwent excavation. A new track bed was installed, and approximately 7,000 feet of new track on concrete ties was constructed.

Additionally, ten new turnouts ranging in size from No. 20 up to No. 26.5 were added to improve rail operations. The project also includes site work and drainage improvements.

JOADEM Corporation’s role in this project centers around providing QC Special Inspections and Materials Testing services. Our expertise ensures that the construction activities adhere to quality standards and specifications. Through rigorous inspections and testing, we verify the integrity and compliance of the track construction, including the new track bed, concrete ties, and turnouts.

Furthermore, we contribute to the overall project success by providing expertise in identifying any potential issues and ensuring proper materials testing procedures.
