The Bay Park Conveyance Project is a partnership between the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and the Nassau County Department of Public Works (NCDPW). This project is focused on improving the water quality and storm resiliency in Long Island’s Western Bays by upgrading its existing wastewater management infrastructure.
The South Shore Water Reclamation Facility, which currently discharges a daily average of 50 million gallons of treated water into Reynolds Channel, will be upgraded to convey 75 million gallons of treated water the Cedar Creek Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) ocean outfall pipe.
This involves the design and construction 3.6 miles of micro-tunnel force main; 14 shafts for micro-tunneling constructed using secant piles, soil-mixing and jet-grout; rehabilitation and slip-lining of 7.3 miles of existing pipeline; a new 75 MGD effluent diversion pump station; and replacement of pumps at an existing pump station. JOADEM Corporation was contracted to provide Quality Control and Special Inspections for this project.
The Bay Park Conveyance project will spur the rapid ecological recovery of the Western Bays marshlands, which will protect coastal communities from storm surge and sea level rise. Residents will experience the benefits of cleaner water when treated water is no longer discharged into the Western Bays.
